HI!! I'm Gomer. I'm your Guide Wizard! and Today we are going to learn about Solar Heating and how it works for us!

So Let's Get Started ! ! Have you ever left something lay outside in the bright sun?
Later, when you picked it up, you found it was VERY HOT ! !

Well, That's Solar Heat! !

Now if you place your hand near it, you can feel the air
around it is also warmer. The hot object is heating the air!
That is just what a SOLAR COLLECTOR does. But some things get hotter than
others. Could the COLOR of the collector make a difference??? Let's see....

Why don't we try an experiment? Get two pieces of metal about the same size.    Paint one of them BLACK, the other one WHITE. Lay them both out in the sun for a few minutes. Which one is hotter?? I can see the white one is brighter, so that must mean more light is being reflected away from it.     But the Black one is trapping its heat and getting too hot to touch! Careful, don't burn yourself!

So . . . If BLACK absorbs heat and WHITE reflects it away, then
the BLACK metal plate will get hotter than the WHITE one!

The BLACK one will make a better ABSORBER PLATE and COLLECTOR.

Then, I should paint my metal plate BLACK to make it work better as a Solar Collector !
